ACC Internet Cribbage

Jerry Hardy wins ACC Inaugural Internet Classic

November 1, 2003:
112 participants gathered at MSN Games on Thursday, October 30 for the ACC/Pegging Pals Inaugural Classic. A festive atmosphere was in evidence as ACC veterans playing online for the first time mingled with Internet whizzes new to the ACC. Old chums from Grass Roots and the Tournament Trail greeted each other in the lobby, and Zone.com regulars hailed online friends as fellow ACC members. Everyone shared in the excitement and pride over this event, which launches an important new chapter in the history of the ACC and the game of cribbage.

When the All Start was given at 7:00 PM Pacific Time, players paired off for the first round of this single elimination, best-of-three format competition. Two hours later, the field had narrowed to two members. It was close, but the honor of being the first winner of an ACC Internet tournament goes to Jerry Hardy of Phillips, ME. Known online as ovaeeezy, Jerry prevailed over Beverly Moore (SapphireGal_) of Stoughton, WI in the finals. Beverly's sister Lois Fosdal (Ezmarelda), who serves on the Internet Steering Committee, shared Third Place with Mike Iowacard Miller. The Fifth Place bracket was rounded out by Margie Grindel (+Hershey_Girl), Larry Reed (drcrib_3) and Todd Champagne (airbornetchamp). Congratulations to all the winners!

Although the turnout greatly exceeded expectations, things were kept on an even keel by co-directors Joan Dulworth and Karen Peake, both experienced online tournament hosts. Michael Schell helped with members' screen name registrations, and other ACC officials, including Robert Milk, Rick Allen, Jim Crawford and Doris Denny, answered questions in the lobby. Several seasoned Zone.com players graciously assisted the newbies in figuring out "the whole Internet cribbage thang".

The tournament was a demonstration event, and no IRPs were awarded, though the high finishers will all enter the permanent ACC record. Many more tournaments will be held over the next several weeks, and new events will be added to the official schedule soon, so check back often or sign up for email updates. We expect that the trial period for the Internet Cribbage Program will end — and rated play will begin — sometime in the first quarter of 2004. Return to the home page to learn how to join the fun!
