ACC Internet Cribbage

Ralston wins while Gregson scores a 28

November 8, 2003:
Iowa pegger Ronald Ralston (rdr1231) came out on top of today's 80-player ACC Pegging Pals Single Elimination tournament, held at MSN Games. Ralston's victory underscores the appeal of the ACC's new Internet Cribbage Program for those who live in places with limited over-the-board cribbage activity (Iowa has only one Grass Roots club, though it's a good one, responsible for the annual Capitol City Classic in the Des Moines area).

Ralston defeated Paul Gregson (cornellbigred), the ACC's Webmaster, in the Finals. Gregson had gotten there by drawing a 28 hand in the deciding game of his Semifinal match against Wisconsin's Benjamin Witz (ACCWI2384). It was the first 28 hand recorded in ACC Internet play.

Witz shared Third Place with Dale Kochenburg (peggerd2394), a two-time winner of the world's most prestigious cribbage tournament: the ACC Tournament of Champions, held each year in Reno.

The tournament was capably run by Joan Dulworth (+LovesPeace), the ACC's Internet Tournament Director Coordinator, and her Pegging Pals colleague Annie Poppe (+Clas_syLady). The tournament was a demonstration event, and no IRPs were awarded, though the high finishers will all enter the permanent ACC record.

Many more tournaments will be held over the next several weeks, and new events will be added to the official schedule soon, so check back often or sign up for email updates. We expect that the trial period for the Internet Cribbage Program will end — and rated play will begin — sometime in the first quarter of 2004. Return to the home page to learn how to join the fun!
