ACC Internet Cribbage
Van Dyke and Partain become
repeat winners
February 11, 2004:
ACC Internet Cribbage has its first repeat winner! It's Mark Van
Dyke (loosespokes1135) of Grand Haven, MI, who won the ACC
Pegging Pals single elimination tournament on Saturday, January 31. Van
Dyke had previously won the December 15, 2003
Cribbage Cup.
Second Place went to Richard L. Pierce Jr.
(J555529) of Springfield, OR. This was Pierce's highest finish in
an ACC Internet event. Third Place was shared by Mike Fetchel (mfetchCT425)
of Middlefield, CT and Marie Harrington (ma_lobs) of
Ipswich, MA, both veterans of ACC Internet Cribbage.
Filling out the top eight were Dorothy
Westerlund (ACC1139L2) of Sherwood, OR, Robert H. Campbell
(SUNANBOB1) of Marlborough, MA, John F. Reed (eagle_7374)
of Milton Freewater, OR and former winner
Michael D'Elena (RI971) of Providence, RI.
Karen Peake (+Lady_Amber) directed the
event, which consisted of four-stake single elimination playoff matches.
No byes were necessary, as exactly 64 players signed up. Note that only
35 of them were ACC members, despite that all eight of the top spots
were claimed by ACC'ers. Good going, gang!
If it's late in the season, and you need to win
your next playoff match to wrap up the Internet Cribbage Championship,
one nickname you don't want to see across the table from you is
cheeky_parrot1, which belongs to Linda A. Partain of
Haverhill, MA. Partain followed up Van Dyke's accomplishment by taking
the February 2 Cribbage Cup event, thus becoming our second
repeat winner. She had previously won the December 20, 2003 ACC Pegging
Pals single elimination tournament.
Partain prevailed over Jon Taylor (AZ389)
of Gilbert, AZ in the best-of-three Finals. Third Place went to John
F. Reed (eagle_7374) of Milton Freewater, OR and Mark
Niemerow (WhyteLotus1) of Calabasas, CA. Finishing in the
Fifth Place bracket were Billy Barnes (Billy_CA5177) of
Red Bluff, CA, John Alig (JohnAZ) of Mesa, AZ and Kerry
O'Connell (aussiekekka) from Australia by way of Ventura, CA.
The qualifying round was topped by Niemerow and
Dick Combie (truescot7) of San Jose, CA, who both compiled a
perfect 5-0 record. Karen Peake (+Lady_Amber) directed the
31-player event.
Now let's see who'll be the first to notch a hat
trick!
