ACC Internet Cribbage
Reed takes early lead in 2004
Internet Championship race
February 2004 wrap-up:
Our 2004 Internet Cribbage season is underway, with Mike Fetchel,
Dick Ness, Kelly Burgar and Billy Barnes all winning rated events. But it
was Larry Reed, propelled by three Second Place finishes, who grabbed
the lead in the race for the first Internet Cribbage Championship as the
month of February concluded.
As previously reported, Mike Fetchel
(mfetchCT425) started the season off by winning the ACC's
first rated Internet tournament on February 12. Larry Reed (drcrib_3)
of Strathmore, CA, finished second that night, setting a pattern that
would land him in the lead for the IRP crown by month's end. Click
here for details on that tournament.
February 16 Cribbage Cup:
Dick Ness
(drness) of Port Orchard, WA was victorious in this Monday
evening Cribbage Cup event, prevailing over Laurie Rancourt (CQinMaine64)
of Bowdoin, ME in the Finals. Mark Niemerow (WhyteLotus1)
of Calabasas, CA and Billy Barnes (Billy_CA5177) of Red
Bluff, CA shared Third Place.
In all, 77 players participated in this mixed
format event that began with a five game round-robin qualifying round.
Robert Meyer (a9legged_spider), a
previous Cribbage Cup winner, and Bruce Misenar (bjrmis),
a new ACC member from Bremerton, WA, topped this round with a perfect
five wins each. They joined the four- and three-game winners in the
playoffs.
With the retirement of tournament director Karen Peake (+Lady_Amber)
in early March, it appears that this will be the last Cribbage Cup event
for a while. The ACC will continue to hold tournaments on alternate
Monday evenings in March and April, but they will be 4-stake single
elimination events. Give us your feedback on these formats, and let us
know if you'd like to see the Cribbage Cup return in the future. (see
complete results...)
February 21 Pegging Pals single elimination:
Today saw our first Canadian winner as Kelly Burgar (lil_thummper)
of Edmonton, AB prevailed over Larry Reed (drcrib_3) in
the Finals. Burgar is a new member who took advantage of a provision in
the ACC rules that allows players who join the organization within seven
days of a tournament to retain any IRPs they earned in it. After
winning, Burgar registered her screen name with us and
dispatched an email to the Membership Secretary to arrange her dues
payment. When her membership is confirmed, her 45 IRPs will appear in
the official standings.
Third Place went to Mike Poole (TBird302ford)
of Westminster, CO and Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218), whose
other half Jennifer Buhrow (JennBuh78) tied for Fifth
Place with
Wayne Momsen (WP_Dad). The Buhrows hail from Louisville
and appear to comprise roughly half that city's ACC membership. No
wonder they play on the Internet!
Joan Dulworth (+LovesPeace) directed this
60 player event. (see complete

February 26 Pegging Pals single elimination:
Thursday night is a popular night for ACC Internet Cribbage, and
the 4-stake single elimination tournament we hold at that time each week regularly attract some of
the largest crowds of any cribbage event at MSN Games. Tonight's
tournament drew a field of 92, keeping director Donald E. Ellis (+_LoneStar__)
busy as he cranked out each round's pairings. In the end, it was a
non-member taking First Place, with Larry Reed (drcrib_3)
claiming Second Place for the third time this season. Don't worry,
Larry, your day in the Finals will come!
Billy Barnes (Billy_CA5177) reached
the Semifinals for the second time this season, settling for Third Place
along with Francis Ganiszewski (Tidewater_29er) of Virginia
Beach, VA. (see complete results...)
February 28 Pegging Pals single elimination:
Billy Barnes (Billy_CA5177) is a regular visitor to
the final four. Since the ACC started
holding Internet tournaments, he has one Second Place finish and three
Third Place finishes. This afternoon Barnes's cards were hot throughout
as he breezed to the Finals, where he swept Stewart Kelly
(studude13) of Federal Way in the best-of-three match. Barnes
added 45 IRPs to his total on the season, while Kelly grabbed his first
30.
Third Place went to
Hal Mueller (_Ha1scrib_) of Hamilton, ON. Professor Mueller
is best known to cribbage enthusiasts for his program
HALSCRIB, which
is widely regarded as the world's strongest computer cribbage program.
Joan Dulworth (+LovesPeace) directed the tournament, which
attracted 58 players. (see complete
results...)
