January 2005 wrap-up:
Internet Statistician Don Ellis reports that ACC Internet Cribbage set a
new participation record during January 2005. We had 1,126 players in 13
single-elimination events. That's an average of 85 players per event
(with a low of 76 and a high of 102). An 50.4 of those 85 players per
event were ACC members. Additionally there was a 26-player members-only
Cribbage Cup. Not only are we attracting a nice crowd, we are also
drawing some of those guest players into the ACC, growing the membership
of our game's premier sanctioning organization.
Now to the standings. Our Top Ten looks pretty familiar this month,
since it features the same ten players as last time! Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135)
of Grand Haven, MI used another tournament victory to hang onto First
Place, with
Donald Olney (olney_1147) of Carievale, SA also adding
a win to creep to within 11 IRPs. John Schafer (netview85)
of Battle Creek, MI rode an impressive 102 IRP month into Third Place.
And watch out for
Jerry Hardy (ovaeeezy) of Phillips, ME, who holds the
eighth spot with only 37 tournaments played (about half as many as Van
Dyke). If Jerry finds time to participate "full time" down the stretch,
and can keep up his remarkable pace of 11.3 IRPs per tournament, he
could well end up on top of the heap.
Once again, ACC members dominated the honor rolls in January, winning
13 of 14 events, or 93%, despite comprising only 59% of tournament
participants. You're a tough bunch of players. And now you can add the
following first-time winners: Gregory Mitchell, Bryan J.
Gurden, Naomi Bennett and Delvin Kendrick.
Congratulations, and welcome to ACC Internet Cribbage.

An MSN Games software update wreaked havoc on the Tuesday, January
25, disconnecting most of our members and forcing tournament director
Karen Peake to call off that evening's Cribbage Cup. These things happen
from time to time on the Web, and TDs are authorized to postpone or
cancel events if adverse conditions on the Zone's servers or the
Internet prevent their successful conclusion. Cribbage Cup events
resumed as scheduled on February 8.
