February 2005 wrap-up:
Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135) continues to lead in both
IRPs and tournaments played, notching yet another victory on
February 5, his sixth of the year.
The Grand Haven, MI pegger still has 18 official tournaments to add to
his tally before the season ends in July.
John Schafer (netview85)
of Battle Creek, MI, who notched 102 IRPs in January, swept both
Cribbage Cup events in February to improve from Third to Second Place.
Cribbage Cups are among the toughest Internet events to win. Despite the
relatively low number of participants, those that do play are all ACC
members, and the standard of competition is high. The round robin
qualifying round tends to even out the luck factor more than in
playoff-only events, so it's harder to simply ride streak of hot cards
to victory.
Donald Olney (olney_1147) of Carievale, SA continues
to represent his province well, hanging on to Third Place only 15 IRPs
behind Schafer, but with nine extra tournaments available to play. Aloha
pegger
Charles Rodgers (KALEKAI) won two events in five days
(his first victories since August 9) to
move up from Sixth to Fourth Place. Next comes a tight bunch of 400 IRP'ers,
consisting of 2004 Internet Champion Mike
Fetchel (mfetchCT425),
three 2004 All-Internet players:
Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218) of Louisville, KY,
Kelly Ann Burgar (lil_thummper) of Edmonton, AB and
Tom Lewis (pegfast) of Albuquerque, NM, and finally Jerry Hardy (ovaeeezy)
of Phillips, ME. That leaves us with Rick LaVallee of
Orlando, FL, with his Frank Herbert-derived nickname of KwizatzHaderach.
Rick won on the final day of the month to crack the Top Ten for the
first time, and is the only new player on this month's leader board.
Dorothy Westerlund (ACC1139L2) Sherwood, OR a Life
Member of the ACC notched her second win
in as many months. Better watch out for her if she ever starts playing
ACC Internet Cribbage "full-time". She has 147 IRPs in only eight
tournaments for an average of over 18 IRPs per event! Contrast that to
our leader Mark Van Dyke at 9 IRPs/event, or Donald Olney at 10 IRPs/event.
Congratulations to David Hardy (bluenoser1313) of
Spring, TX for his first ACC
Internet Cribbage victory. Ditto for David R. Smith (DAVESC89)
of Acworth, GA who bested 2004 All-Internet
Don Eastwood (NC310Crib) of Hillsborough, NC in the Finals
on February 7. Another 2004
All-Internet player, Ronald Ralston
(rdr1231) of Hartford, IA, got his third victory of the season on
February 3, while Boston's Nicholas Cheung (nicholas179)
got his first victory of 2004–5 on
February 14.
