April 2005 wrap-up:
To no one's surprise, Mark Van Dyke (loosespokes1135) of Grand Haven, MI remains at the top of our standings. Beneath him, Hawaii's Charles Rodgers (KALEKAI) saw his terrific 204 IRP run in March halted abruptly as he was shut out in seven tries in April. The cards will do that to you, Charles! John Schafer (netview85) of Battle Creek, MI took advantage of the situation to retake second place, his 63 IRPs on the month coming entirely as a result of winning the April 21 Pegging Pals single elimination event.

Small world watch:
Speaking of our two leaders, John Schafer reported an interesting vignette from the March 19, 2005 Who's the King Tournament Trail event in Muskegon, MI. Both he and Mark Van Dyke came to play, and wound up at the same table for the qualifying round. This is not the only time online members have met and played, but of course these two men were Number One and Two at the time (as they are now). Mark and John's 12th game of the 12-game qualifier was against each other, with Mark staying Number One. Both made the cut to play on, though. While waiting they played a best-of-three match, which John won. Mark and John both won their First Round playoff matches, and had Mark won his Second Round match, there could have been a rematch. John want to the Finals, where he lost to his fellow Grass Roots Club #71 mate Jim Mitchell.

The player of the month is Donald LeVack (_redeagle0) of Colorado Springs, CO, who put together a First Place, a Second Place and a Third Place finish, with a few sundry lower qualifications, to amass a 156 IRP April, enough to move him into the Top Ten for the first time this season. Donald is the only Top Ten player not repeating from last month. His victory on April 28 must have been particularly satisfying after seeing his cards go south in four previous Finals matches this season.

First-time winners:
Although our leader board shows little change this month, we do have several fresh faces in our winners circle. William A. Schultz (floydandzep) of Lincoln, IL, grabbed his first ACC Internet Cribbage victory by taking the April 7 single elimination event. No word on whether Schultz dedicated the victory to the musicians presumably honored by his nickname. Vicki Soule (sweetnwyldeMe21) captured a Cribbage Cup from her computer in Woolwich, ME. Marilyn Gaudreau (DisownedHarbor3) won from Agawam, MA, just outside Springfield. No word yet on the meaning of her curious nickname, or why it's number 3 (are there two other DisownedHarbors playing at the Zone?). David J. Brooks (ShamIng) of Concord, NC and Ray Brixius (Ragin_Pistolero) of Omaha, NE round out our first-time winners.

Participation award:
Special mention to 2004 All-Internet player Don Eastwood (NC310Crib), who was the first member to reach 100 tournament in this 2004–5 season. Internet Cribbage isn't the same without the sight of your moniker in the lobby, Don!
