July 2004 wrap-up:
The final standings are in for our 2004 season, and Mike Fetchel
(mfetchCT425) of Middlefield, CT is cribbage's first official Internet
Champion.
Scott Buhrow (MrB_IA218) of Louisville, KY had Second
Place to himself, while
Kelly Ann Burgar (lil_thummper) from Edmonton, AB
headed up the 300 IRP club that comprised the rest of the All-Internet
team.
In all, 209 ACC members participated in ACC Internet Cribbage last
season, with 169 earning IRPs. That means that the top 17 finishers will
receive invitations to the ACC Tournament of Champions next year in
Reno. (read more...)
Don Ellis looks back on our first
season
ACC Internet Statistician Don Ellis gives us a status report on ACC
Internet Cribbage, and a review of its first sanctioned season
here.
2004 season ends.
2004–5 season starts
The ACC has concluded its inaugural 2004 Internet Cribbage season,
and is proceeding immediately into the full 2004–5 season
starting with the Monday, August 2 tournament. Some schedule changes are
afoot, so check out the current published
schedule, and stay tuned for further changes in the coming days.
Specifically there will be changes on Mondays as the availability of our TDs changes over the Summer. We will also be adding new member-only events
on Tuesdays.
You read that right...Tuesdays will see ACC events in the Zone
League Room (which is accessible from the Zone's
"Play with
others" page). This will enable us to hold member-only tournaments
in some of our longer and more challenging formats (such as double
elimination), that are less well suited for "drop-in" players. We'll
continue to do single-elimination events in Tournament Rooms 5 and 6,
and these will continue to be open to both members and nonmembers.
Tuesday night events will start with a double elimination tournament
on August 17 at 5:00 PM Pacific Time. The early start time is due to the
length of this kind of event (sorry, West coasters who work!). We may
also have a member-only event on the 31st, so check back.
For the 2004–5 season, we have tentatively set the IRP quota for 100
tournaments. We will be taking some time to analyze participation
statistics from the past season before posting a definitive number. This
might stay at 100 (approximately two tournaments per week), or it might
be a different number or perhaps even a percentage of scheduled
tournaments. We are also working on adjusting start times and adding
events to accommodate members in different time zones. We welcome your
feedback, and look forward to seeing you on the 'net in the coming year!
2004 Internet Championship and
All-Internet team races enter the final stretch
June 2004 wrap-up:
It looks more and more as though Mike Fetchel
(mfetchCT425) of Middlefield, CT will be our first Internet
Champion, as he not only maintained his sizeable lead throughout June,
but even padded it a little with several good finishes. The player of
the month, however, was Mark Van
Dyke, who won three events and 198 IRPs during June. three victories
and a Third Place finish. There's plenty of competition left for the
All-Internet team as the season winds down. And remember the top 10% of
rated players will earn an invitation to the ACC Tournament of
Champions. (read more...)
Fetchel distances himself from
the pack
April-May wrap-up:
Mike Fetchel went on a tear during April and May, winning four
tournaments (to go with his earlier one) and qualifying in six more to
open up a 150 IRP lead in the 2004 Internet Championship race. Scott Buhrow
continues to lead the rest of the pack. Meanwhile, the ACC held its
first Internet double elimination events. (read more...)
Ellis takes over for Allen as
Internet Statistician
Rick Allen was the ACC's first Internet Statistician. An accomplished
Access programmer and director of two major Tournament Trail events each
year in Richmond, VA, Rick developed the database application we use to
track members' Internet tournament participation and accrued IRPs. Now
that work is complete on the database, Rick has passed the reins to
Donald E. Ellis, who will have primary responsibility for
maintaining the IRP database going forward. The Internet Steering
Committee thanks Rick for his hard work over the past several months, an
effort that was instrumental in getting ACC Internet Cribbage up and
running.
Donald E. Ellis has hosted cribbage tournaments at
MSN Games by Zone.com since 2001, and is one of the ACC's most
prominent online TDs. Many of you know him as +_LoneStar__, and
perhaps you read his recent article on
online hosting. Don retired from the US Air Force in June 2002 after 26
years of service. At the time of his retirement, he was a management
analyst, specializing in personal computer applications and force
sizing. He is currently a full-time student at the University of Texas
at San Antonio seeking high-school teaching credentials, majoring in
Multi-Disciplinary Science with a minor in Physics.
Lewis surges into first place
March wrap-up:
Tom Lewis rode a great month of Internet cribbage into the top position
in the 2004 Internet Championship race. Tom's March efforts included one
win and three Third Place finishes. Right behind him is Scott Buhrow,
who won two separate events in March. (read more...)

perspective

Statistician and one of our most prolific online tournament directors,

scenes at an online tournament.
Reed takes early lead in 2004
Internet Championship race
February wrap-up:
Our 2004 Internet Cribbage season is underway, with Mike Fetchel,
Dick Ness, Kelly Burgar and Billy Barnes all winning rated events. But it
was Larry Reed, propelled by three Second Place finishes, who grabbed
the lead in the race for the first Internet Cribbage Championship. (read more...)
ACC Internet Cribbage begins
rated play!
The American Cribbage Congress is pleased to announce its first
season of rated Internet play.
Beginning Thursday, February 12, 2004, ACC members who perform
well in official ACC online tournaments will receive Internet Rating
Points (IRPs) in accordance with the guidelines described on the
IRP page. IRPs will be accumulated throughout the
season, which will end on July 31, 2004. The ten players with the most
IRPs will receive All-Internet honors, with the highest rated player
being crowned Internet Champion. The top 10% of players earning IRPs
will receive an invitation to the 2005 ACC Tournament of Champions. For
this first season only, the individual quota for rated tournaments will
be lowered to 50.
Following the conclusion of the truncated 2004 season, play will
continue with the 2004-5 season, which will run from August 1, 2004 to
July 31, 2005. Subsequent seasons will follow this same annual schedule.
IRPs will be continue to be tabulated on both an annual and a lifetime
basis.
IRP standings and tournament results will be published monthly on
this Web site and in Cribbage World. Look for the first results
in early March.
We thank our members who participated in the trial period for ACC
Internet Cribbage. You are the ones who proved this concept could work!
Good luck to you now in the race for the first Internet Cribbage
Championship.
How to participate in ACC Internet Cribbage:
- Join the ACC if you haven't already
done so. To compete officially you must be an ACC member in good
standing
- Familiarize yourself with the ACC rules for
Internet play and tournament guidelines
- Presently, all tournaments are held at
MSN Games by Zone.com. If you don't already have a Zone.com
screen name (nickname),
create one now and spend some time learning how to use the MSN
Games cribbage software. We suggest you practice with a few friendly
matches in the
social
rooms. If you have trouble getting started at MSN Games, have a
look at
this document
- Once you have an established MSN Games screen name, register it
with us using the online form. This will link
your screen name to your ACC member information
- Consult the tournament schedule for
dates and times of official events. There is no pre-registration —
just sign up in the designated tournament room between 10 and 60
minutes before the start time. Some tournaments close after 64 or 128
entrants, and all tournaments allow nonmembers to play (as MSN Games
requires), so come early to guarantee yourself a place. Also be sure
you have enough time to complete the tournament if you reach the later
rounds (three hours should suffice)
