YOUTH TOURNEY DOMINATED BY FLATTO BROTHERS

Due to conflicting school schedules, the 14th Annual Sierra Youth Cribbage Tournament was played twice this year, once in Grass Valley, CA in February, and in Chico, CA in March. Here are the results of the Grass Valley event (results from the Chico tourney will be in Crib World at a later date):

Twenty-six young players ranging in age from 8 to 18 played a nine game card to see who would qualify for the playoffs. High Qualifier was 14 year-old Jake Flatto who scored a grand slam with a 19-9-+175 card. He went on to win the first two rounds of the best of three playoffs without a defeat, running his total wins to 13 in a row! Then came the best of five finals vs. Zach his 18 year-old brother. Jake won the first two games and needed one more to not only win the championship, but to do it without a loss. That’s when Zach put the hammer down with three consecutive wins to take top honors. Both Flatto brothers reside in Santa Rosa, CA. Third place went to 17 year-old Michael Zahn from Castro Valley, CA who also finished third last year. Fourth place finisher, Dusty Zeisler, 12, lives in Grass Valley.
